The letter was published by Haris Jusufovic, a history teacher in Sarajevo. It is an attempt by an individual to re-examine the attitude of the authorities in war-time Sarajevo to persons of another nationality, specifically to the Serbs. The author calls for the confrontation with crimes against Serbs in Sarajevo and for the processing of responsible – commanders and perpetrators.

Museum of War Childhood

Jasminko Halilović is the author of the project “Childhood in War”, which in June 2010 published an online call to people who grew up partly during the war to send their short answer to the question “What does a Childhood in War mean to your?”. The goal was to make a book that will present various aspects of this experience from a large number of short answers. In January, the book “Childhood in War: Sarajevo 1992-1995” was published. In February 2015, Halilovic gathered a team to create a collection of the future Museum of War Childhood . A collection of personal items, stories, audio and video testimonies, photographs, letters, drawings and other documents that illustrate the experience of growing up in the war are presented at the Museum of War Childhood. Every item shown within a museum exhibition or within guest exhibitions is followed by the story of its owner.

Zlata Filipovic: Zlatin dnevnik

Zlata Filipovic was a twelve-year-old girl during the siege of Sarajevo in 1992. The teacher persuaded her to begin to write a diary based on Anne Frank’s diary. In the diary, from her perspective, she recorded the daily life during the war. The first edition was published already in 1993, which brought Zlata international recognition and enabled her and her family to evacuate from Sarajevo.

Fama CollectionThe siege of Sarajevo is told through the experience of ordinary people – citizens of Sarajevo. Most of the recorded video testimonies were created during or immediately after the siege of Sarajevo. Video interviews were done with about 450 citizens of Sarajevo – politicians, doctors, children, generals, artists, journalists, educators, housewives, actors, innovators, ordinary citizens. Their personal testimonies were chronologically recorded, from March 1992 to March 1996. The material containing survey about survival `92-`96 is the first and only research conducted on the survival experience of ordinary citizens of Sarajevo during the siege. Questionnaires (31 standard questions) provide a unique insight into life and survival under siege according to the experience of 4,637 individuals from all urban neighborhoods and provide the possibility for a comparison.

Sarajevo’s War Surrealists

Sarajevski ratni nadrealisti During the siege of Sarajevo, former members of the popular TV show Top List of Surrealists gathered and initially broadcasted a radio program on Sarajevo Radio in 1992, and later performed stage plays for Sarajevo’s citizens during 1993 and 1994. The stage plays consisted of sketches and parodies on the subject of daily life under siege.
During 1994, a TV series Surrealist Top List was recorded, in which these sketches were screened. The humorous presentation of the everyday lives of people in besieged Sarajevo was a way to preserve the spirit of the city.
